Sad prospect of a porn-fest during Twixtmas

More people are more likely to watch porn on the Internet during the Twixtmas festive break, between the Christmas and New Year holidays, than go online to do good, or help charity.

Google searches for ‘porn’ are expected to reach their climax in the last week of December with an estimated 17 million searches for adult-related phrases. In contrast, for every on-line search for ‘charity’ there are 24 searches for porn.

Campaigners are now urging the public to take advantage of the five days of Twixtmas – the break, between Christmas and New Year holidays – to do at least 5 socially good things during the period when people are ‘time rich’ instead of being ‘time poor’.

Google research shows there has been an inexorable rise in the volume of searches for phrases containing the word ‘porn’ in theUKsince 2004.

According to Andrew Smith of Escherman, a leading search engine analyst, using the Google’s own data, reveals there have been 45.5 million searches for porn-related terms each month over the last year.  By contrast, the volume for charity-related terms is at a steady, constant low of just 1.8 million – around 4% of the volume of searches for porn.

On-line searches for phrases containing the word ‘Donation’ recorded a mere 301,000 – less than 1% of the equivalent searches for porn

In terms of regional variations, the Northern Irish are the ‘porn kings of the UK’, with  a consistently higher share of porn-related searches compared to other regions – with Lurgan andBangorbeing the top porn search locations.

“While mature adults can make whatever decision on how they spend their time – and what they do on-line, the Twixtmas can either go down as a period of being a porn fest – or be a time for doing social good.” said Twixtmas campaigner Andy Green.

“Each of us can make a difference, no matter how small, by using the Twixtmas break to do 5 good things to make the world a better place – and also show a positive, socially constructive side of human nature.”

For those not wanting to spend their time searching for porn in the holiday break, the Twixtmas campaign has many other suggestions for what to do at its website  www.twixtmas.com.

Also, the www.HelpFromHome.com web site for example has hundreds of opportunities for doing good without even getting out of your pyjamas.
