Royal Society backs IdeasBank to boost creativity to help Barry Island

Creativity boost for Barry Island

A new initiative I want to get underway – an IdeasBank for helping to develop my hometown of Barry Island has received a welcome boost – with a grant from the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA)

The RSA’s Catalyst fund provides small grants to Fellows who have developed an innovative solution to a social problem. Strong projects are helped by the expertise available through the panel, RSA staff and, above all, by our work to mobilise the Fellowship at large via the RSA Skills Bank or targeted introductions or invitations to participate. Projects compete for grants of £1,000 to £2,000 in the first instance – with additional grants of £5,000 available after delivery of the first outputs.

In early May, a panel with representation from Fellowship Council and senior RSA staff decided to support the IdeasBank proposal to run a series of local meetings to generate and capture ideas, share examples of local community role models, and create new contacts and networks within the island.

Project leader Andy Green will collaborate with the Fellowship Networks team, Citizen Power team in Peterborough and be given staff help in identifying similar models for the events to follow and stakeholders to engage once completed. If you would like to get in touch, please email Andy.

For over 250 years the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) has been a cradle of enlightenment thinking and a force for social progress.  Our approach is multi-disciplinary, politically independent and combines cutting edge research and policy development with practical action.
